PEC Opposes Alario for Senate President
Monday, Nov 21, 2011 12:23pm
The Caddo Republican Executive Committee has gone on record in opposition to the election of John Alario (R) as president of the Louisiana Senate. Mr. Alario changed his party affiliation last year from Democrat to Republican. In his announcement he stated that he wanted to be president of the senate and felt that his election would be easier as a Republican. The Parish Executive Committee welcomes Mr. Alario as a Republican; however, from all indications he only switched parties, not his philosophy. Credible opposition to Alario quest for senate president has not emerged, most likely due to the Governor's endorsement.
The following resolution points were passed by the Committee and twice sent to Governor Jindal expressing the reasons: State Senator John Alario’s voting record during his many years of tenure in the State House of Representatives was not consistent with conservative values of smaller government and lower taxes. His voting record in his short time in the State Senate has demonstrated his continued lack of conservative principles. Furthermore, the promotion to this level of power in the Senate is seen as regression to the old ways of state government to tax and spend. The State of Louisiana under Governor Bobby Jindal has made great progress in changing the image of the State to one of higher efficiency and ethics in government. Alario’s election as president of the Senate gives the appearance of regressing to the old way and at the very least would diminish the image of Governor Jindal as a reformer.
